Critque Groups

Poetry Critique Group

Poetry Critique Group Leader,
Carla Galdo

This monthly critique group will offer support, guidance, and feedback on poetry written by its members. Poets will find community among other writers of Faith and thoughtful input on improving craft. This group will meet virtually on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. CDT/CST (depending on the month), with occasional alternative Monday dates. The dates are Sept. 25, Oct. 23, Nov. 27, 2023, Jan 22, 2024, Feb. 26, and March 18, 2024.

Active membership in Catholic Literary Arts is a requirement for potential participation.  Please directly email Sarah Cortez at cathla.org@gmail.com to check on your membership status and to apply to this group. Limited spaces remain.

Carla Galdo is a writer and editor for the women’s book group Well-Read Mom. She has written for a variety of publications including Humanum: Issues in Family, Culture, and Science, and Columbia Magazine. Her poetry has appeared in Dappled Things, Modern Age, and on Irish Southeast Radio, and she was a finalist in the Catholic Literary Arts 2022 Advent Poetry Contest. She has taught classes in literature, theology, and the art of book reviewing. Carla earned an MTS from the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family, and is pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of St. Thomas-Houston.


Children’s Literature Virtual Critique Group

Children’s Literature Critique Group Leader, Christina Baker

Join this Children's Literature monthly critique group for support, feedback, and industry-specific knowledge for writers of children’s literature. Writers working on picture books, chapter books, and middle-grade books of fiction, nonfiction and poetry will find community and guidance. This group will meet for six months on the fourth Wednesday of each month via Zoom at 7:00 p.m. CST. Dates are: August 23, September 27, October 25, November TBD, December TBD, and January 2024 TBD.

Christina Baker received a BA in Latin and Classical Studies from Tulane University. She lives in Lafayette, Louisiana, where she writes and homeschools her five children. She is a current member of CLA, was a member of SCBWI for several years, and spent three years as a reader for a children's literary agent. She is on a mission to find and create books that combine the best practices of children's literature with the beauty of the Catholic faith.


Fiction Writers Virtual Critique Group

Fiction Writers Critique Group Leader,
Brigid Pasulka

Join author Brigid Pasulka for a virtual critique group for fiction writers, beginning on March 16, 2023 through December 2023. The group will meet monthly on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. CST via Zoom.  A limited number of seats remain. Brigid Pasulka's debut novel A Long, Long Time Ago and Essentially True (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2009) won the 2010 PEN/Hemingway Award, the Barnes & Noble Discover Award, and the Polish American Historical Society Creative Arts Award. It was translated into six languages, including Polish.  Her second novel, The Sun and Other Stars (Simon & Schuster, 2014) was a Chicago Tribune Editor's Choice and an Indie Next Pick. Pasulka’s short stories have been published in various literary journals.
