Welcome to Catholic Literary Arts and the abundance of Catholic literature.

We celebrate our Catholic tradition and the arts that spring from that dynamic seed.  We offer all people of good will the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow with like-minded writers, students, and appreciators of written words that honor the Trinitarian God.

Catholic Literary Arts’ (CLA) initial endeavors are the Catholic Poetry Society of Houston and the Fearless Catholic Writing Camp, for children and teens.  More will come – a fiction group, perhaps stage and screen plays.  We will grow where there is a need.

St. Francis de Sales, Patron Saint of Writers

Sarah Cortez has a powerful perspective on Catholicism. She sees the modern writing landscape as devoid of true Faith, needing writers with special – almost saintly — perseverance. Her blend of the secular and the spiritual inspired students during her visit — a special awareness of the strength of the Catholic Faith.

Mission Statement

Catholic Literary Arts encourages ongoing growth in literary, artistic, and spiritual development of artists and writers so that the Cultural Patrimony and rich treasures of the Catholic Church may be more perfectly explored and used to draw all peoples to God.

Philosophy of CLA

CLA started in response to the need for high quality writing that seeks to fulfill Pope Benedict XVI’s call to further the “varied language [of the arts] to express her [the Church’s] unvarying message of salvation,” mentioned in his Address to Artists at the Sistine Chapel on November 21, 2009.

CLA looks to the past, works in the present, and seeks to affect the future by relying on the infallible grace of the Holy Spirit to breathe life, grace, inspiration, and protection upon us and all people of good will as we both generate work ourselves and appreciate the achievements of others.

Catholic Literary Arts works with:
- the artists themselves,
- the audiences, and
- the future artists.
